Trust and believe, I know at times it get's so rough that you can't see the forest for the trees. But just keep swimming. And if you get tired, roll over on your back and just float.
My rendition for "Summertime" was written shortly after driving away from the corner of 46th and Center St. just two blocks from my home. I drove up to the stop sign and witnessed people running in the street, and on the sidewalk, screaming and crying. I looked across the street on the ground. There was a young man who looked to be about 15 or 16 years old, laying on the ground-shirt covered with blood.
I was horrified. Once again, when it got hot outside, another young man loses his life. I later found out that he was a good student, and that his mother bought him a car to reward him. Two other young black men were jealous of him, and shot him for no other reason than they didn't like the fact that he had a nice car.
So here is what I was led to write in response. It is painful, but it is powerful, and it is a healing. A change will come when we change our mind's. It is unacceptable to continue the senseless murder's.
